Tips to make Fresh Flowers Last Longer

Flowers/Roses are beautiful gifts from your loved ones, and you want to make them last as long as possible to enjoy and cherish their beauty. Fresh flowers placed in a vase, on the coffee table or in your living room brighten up the space. So to adore their gorgeous appearance in your home, I am uncovering a few less known tips to make them last longer. Enjoy the striking and vibrant expression of your place by following these tips.

    • First, clean the vase with the regular washing dish soap to make it bacteria-free as it can be fatal for the flowers. Ensure that the vase size is perfect so that the stems fit nicely in it and the arrangement looks beautiful.
    • Now fill the vase with warm/hot water. Add flower food to it. If you do not have flower food add 2-3 tsp of sugar to the warm water and mix it well. It will help nourish the flowers and promote the opening of the blooms.
    • Add 1 tbsp of white vinegar/apple cider vinegar to the water. It acts as an anti-bacterial agent and cuts down the growth of bacteria.
    • Before placing the flowers in the vase, remove all the leaves on the stem below the water level as they can contaminate the water.
    • Cut the stem from the bottom at a 45-degree angle to help it absorb the maximum amount of water and nutrients. Keep trimming the stem whenever you change water to make them last longer. Make sure that at least 3/4 of the stem is covered with water.
    • Display the flowers in a shaded and cool area to preserve the blooms longer. Avoid keeping them in direct sunlight.
    • Keep changing the water every second day.

Other quick ways to help cut fresh flowers/blossoms last for 5-6 days:

    • Add a crushed Aspirin to the water before adding the flowers and mix well. It will help the flowers last longer.
    • Another quick way is to add about 1/4 tsp of bleach to 1 liter of water and pour it into the flower vase. It will allow the flowers to stay fresh for 5-7 days.
    • Add 2-3 drops of bleach and 1 tsp of sugar to about 1 liter of water. It will prevent the water from getting cloudy and inhibit the growth of bacteria.
    • Adding copper pennies and a sugar cube to water is another way to keep flowers fresh. Copper penny helps cut down bacteria growth, and sugar provides the flower with necessary nourishment.
    • Mist the flowers with a hair spray to help them last longer. Make sure that you spray on the underside of the leaves and the petals.
    • You can add about ¼ cup of sprite/soda/Vodka to the water in a regular-sized vase for the flowers to last longer.
