Mom’s Magic Mantra for Tummy ache

Hi guys! Today I am sharing a curative mantra from my mom’s kitchen.

My mother gave it to me every time I had a stomach ache and I use to feel better in no time. I am a mother of 7 years old and believe in curing the day-to-day health issues using my kitchen ingredients, instead of running for medical help frequently.

I have been giving this Digestive Powder to my daughter (whenever required) since she was 5. Though the flavor is not kid-friendly, yet she is not fussy about taking it because she has realized that be it her feeling of nausea / bloated stomach/ constipation/ flatulence or tummy ache, Nani’s home remedy works just right.

So here I am, sharing this wonderful mantra with you for your well-being. All the required ingredients are readily available in our kitchen so it’s easy to prepare, store, and use whenever required.

Ingredients and quantity required:

  • Ajwain also known as Ajowan, caraway, carom seeds, bishop’s weeds (250 gms)
    • (Besides the taste and the aroma, it is known to promote healthy digestion, treat flatulence, and relieve constipation).
  • Peepal also known as pipal, pipar, pipli, pipala, long pepper (100 gms)
    • (It is used to improve digestion, treat stomach ache, indigestion, heartburn, and intestinal gas. It also aids to improve appetite).
  • Kala Namak also known as black salt, Himalayan black salt (1 tsp)
    • (It is considered a cooling spice and is used as a laxative and digestive aid. It is also believed to relieve heartburn and flatulence).
  • Lemon Juice (just enough to soak the above ingredients in water)
    • (It is known to heal an upset stomach because the acidity in the lemon helps you digest your food).
  • Table Salt (to taste)

How to prepare:

  • Mix Ajwain, Peepal, Kala Namak, Table Salt in a glass bowl and mix it properly.
  • Now pour the squeezed lemon juice into the bowl and mix well. See that the ingredients are not dry. In case you feel that they are dry, you can add some more lemon juice. Avoid adding excessive lemon juice to the mixture.
  • Keep this mixture for about 2-3 days. Stir the mixture once during the day.
  • After the lemon juice is absorbed and the seeds appear to be slightly swollen, spread this mix on a steel/ glass plate for drying and leave it for a day or two. You can place it in the sun and put a thin cloth/ dupatta on top to avoid dust.
  • Once it is dry, grind it into a fine powder. The magical digestive powder is ready.

You can now store it in a glass bottle and use it whenever you want. This powder works really well. Adults can take about ½ tsp of this powder whenever required with a glass of warm water. For kids, ¼ tsp is recommended.

When to use

This powder can be used when you have:

  • Constipation
  • Stomach aches
  • Heartburn
  • Flatulence
  • Sensation of Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Feeling bloated

Precaution:

In case you are pregnant or, having any existing health conditions/pregnancy, or have allergies to any of the above-mentioned ingredients, pls be cautious. The above digestive powder should be taken in moderation considering your age and other health conditions. Excessive intake is not recommended.
