A Spoonful of Wellness!!

The current COVID 19 pandemics has created chaos in our life and all of us have been putting constant efforts to protect our loved ones by making their immune system strong. We keep looking for healthy options that are nutritious and don’t load us with calories. How about a recipe that is

  • easy to prepare and store
  • crunchy to eat
  • loaded with nutrition
  • makes your immune system strong
  •  aids digestion
  • freshens your mouth and 
  • easy to carry around

Yes, you can have it. All in one!!

The recipe that I am sharing is a mouth freshener that can be consumed by the whole family after any meal as it aids digestion and freshens your mouth. It is loved by all in my family including my 7 year old daughter. The ingredients required to prepare it are easily available.


Barikh Saunf /Fennel Seeds: 200 gms

Saunf is known to treat digestive ailments, has strong antioxidant properties, reduces menstrual pains, helps in weight loss.

Til (Black/white)/Sesame seeds: 2 tbsp

Til is a rich source of magnesium. It is loaded with antioxidants, is rich in zinc, protein, iron, polyunsaturated fatty acid, calcium, phosphorus, Omega 6, and many more nutrients.

Watermelon and Musk melon seeds: 1 tbsp

These seeds are known to be rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E, protein, amino acid, unsaturated fatty acid.

Haldi/ Turmeric powder: 3/4 tsp

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and is known to be an immunity booster. 

Salt about 2 tsp

How to prepare:

  • First, dry roast Fennel seeds in a pan at a low flame for few minutes without adding any oil or ghee.
  • After it is semi roasted add Turmeric powder and salt to taste.
  • Once it starts releasing fragrance and the color starts changing slightly, it is ready. You can take off the heat and pour it into a bowl.
  • Next, take a mix of black and white Sesame seeds and dry roast them in the same pan for a few minutes. Once the color starts changing and the seeds look crunchy, you can remove these and put them in the same bowl.
  • Now take a mix of watermelon seeds and muskmelon seeds and dry roast them. Once the seeds start popping and look crispy pour these in the same bowl.
  • Mix all the ingredients and roast for another 3-4 minutes.
  • Take it off the heat and leave it for cooling.

Once done, your immunity booster is ready. Pour it into an air-tight container and eat it whenever you want. You can add a choice of your seeds. If the watermelon seeds/ musk melon seeds are not available you can use flax seeds or pumpkin seeds instead. Every time I make it, I try to use a different types of seeds as each has its own health benefits and it also gives a slight change in the flavor.

Pour this nutritious crunchy mouth freshener in a small airtight bottle and carry it in your purse with you. Have your spoonful of wellness whenever you feel like. Stay healthy!! Stay safe!!
