Quick and Easy Home remedies for Toothache

Toothache is a pretty common problem that can bother anyone. It causes a whole lot of inconvenience right from interrupting your appetite to disturbing your sleep. It goes without saying, that the moment you suffer from toothache, you need to visit a dentist. But there are times when circumstances don’t allow you to do so immediately. Hence it would be good if you have a few tips off the cuff which can act as emergency relief.

Here are some easy home remedies for you to manage tooth pain at home:

Salt Water: Mix about ½ tsp of salt in Luke-warm water and rinse your mouth with it. This is one of the handiest remedies for immediate pain relief.

Leaves of Guava tree: If you have a guava tree in your garden or in the vicinity of your home, you can take a few leaves,  wash them and add these to about 4-5 glasses of water and boil for some time. Once the water cools down, use it to rinse your mouth 2-3 times a day. This will provide pain relief as guava leaves have excellent antiplaque, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. One can also use this water as a mouthwash as it helps to keep your breath fresh.

Alum/ Fitkari: Take a glass of water and stir a piece of Alum in it about 4-6 times. Use this water to rinse your mouth. Alum has antiseptic, antioxidant, and astringent properties that help in oral care.

Clove: Clove is readily available in our kitchen. Just take one or two cloves and put them near the tooth where you feel the pain. Hold them in your mouth, near that tooth for a little while. The chemical compound eugenol found in clove is a mild anesthetic. It helps numb the nerve in the tooth, thus relieving you from the pain. Clove oil is also available in the market so in case you find it difficult to hold the clove in your mouth, you can use clove oil too. Avoid using clove oil directly to the affected area, instead, pour 1-2 drops of oil on a cotton ball and hold it near the affected place in your mouth.

Garlic: Applying crushed garlic also helps in relieving toothache as crushed garlic releases oil that has antibiotic properties.

Wheatgrass: Wheatgrass helps relieve inflammation in your mouth and prevents infection. Its high chlorophyll content can also help fight bacteria. You can extract the juice of wheatgrass, mix it with water and use it as a mouth wash.

Leaves of Pomegranate: Take a few leaves of pomegranate, wash them and chew them slowly. The juice released will help in curing toothache. You can also boil a few leaves in water and use it as a good mouthwash for oral care.

Precautions:

    • If you are allergic to any of the above-mentioned ingredients, please avoid using them.
    • Any remedy taken in moderation is helpful, if taken in access, it can be harmful.
    • People with existing health conditions/pregnant women should avoid taking any home remedies without proper consultation from a doctor.
    • These remedies are only a temporary solution and one should visit an expert for proper advice and medication.

  7. There’s a quality in your writing that transcends the typical bounds of literature. It doesn’t simply convey ideas — it invites the reader to explore them from within, to sit with them in silence and feel their deeper meanings settle. This is the sort of writing that not only informs, but transforms. You’ve managed to make something as ordinary as words into a space where one can feel truly alive.
